About the Role
Lead the establishment of the Nature & Biodiversity Task Force to ensure nature recovery and biodiversity objectives are integrated into the growth-enhancing activities of the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA). As the UK’s first mayor-led combined county authority, EMCCA is focused on improving connectivity, funding, and preparedness for future growth across the East Midlands region. You will be responsible for shaping the Task Force’s composition, strategy, and delivery objectives, supporting nature recovery and biodiversity protection across the region.
The Task Force will collaborate with Local Nature Recovery Strategies and advise the Mayor and EMCCA on achieving regional biodiversity goals effectively and efficiently. Your role includes creating a clear purpose and action plan based on comprehensive evidence, overseeing outputs and delivery, and liaising with all local authorities within the EMCCA region.
Key responsibilities include leading the development of the Biodiversity Task Force, influencing and securing resources through partnerships at local, regional, and national levels, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and project management to align nature and biodiversity objectives with wider sustainability goals. You will also harness collaborative opportunities for climate adaptation, including sustainable growth and natural flood management, provide policy advice and support to Senior Leadership and the EMCCA Board, develop and implement region-wide biodiversity action plans, respond to emerging biodiversity challenges, and advocate for nature-based development and accessible green spaces.
Experience
- Proven track record in leading the delivery of a nature-related strategy within public, private, or voluntary sectors.
- Experience managing large-scale programmes in complex stakeholder environments.
- Strong background in relevant policy and practice with detailed knowledge of legislative and policy frameworks.
- Evidence of building strong, collaborative, and enduring cross-sector teams and partnerships.
- Sound financial management skills and commercial awareness, with the ability to interpret financial and budgetary information.

Qualifications
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience.
- Excellent knowledge of nature and biodiversity policy, practice, and financing issues.
- This is a politically restricted post as designated under the LGHA and any subsequent amendments.
