About the Role

As Head of Environmental & Sustainability (Rail), you will lead this journey by guiding our strategy and inspiring change across the Rail business. This role goes beyond setting direction; it is about embedding sustainability into the heart of how we operate.

You will bring vision and technical expertise, build capability, encourage innovation, and help our people feel part of the change. Your responsibilities will include developing and embedding the environmental and sustainability strategy across the rail business, building skills and confidence across teams to ensure consistent delivery and foster a culture of environmental excellence. You will provide technical leadership, direction, and governance to drive performance, compliance, and innovation. Additionally, you will influence policy by working with regulators, industry partners, and stakeholders, and support senior leaders by protecting and strengthening the business through sustainable practices.

Experience
Proven experience in setting and delivering environmental and sustainability strategies within a complex organisation, preferably in Rail, Transport, or Infrastructure sectors.

About you
A collaborative leader with strong influencing skills and the ability to engage senior leaders and represent the business externally. You have a genuine passion for driving positive environmental and social impact and can see the big picture while making practical changes happen.

Qualifications
A degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability Engineering, or a related field.
Chartered Environmental status (CEnv) is required.
