About the Role
As Head of Nature Recovery Northern Ireland, you will lead and deliver Butterfly Conservation’s strategic aims for nature recovery in Northern Ireland, maximising impact for butterflies, moths and people. You will implement BC’s objectives through leadership of the Northern Ireland Nature Recovery team, setting and managing budgets, targets and workplans while inspiring and enabling staff to achieve their best. You will develop and strengthen collaboration with BC staff, volunteers, stakeholders and partners to drive progress on targeted species recovery programmes, landscape-scale initiatives and wider nature recovery efforts across Northern Ireland.
Your responsibilities include designing and managing workplans for the Nature Recovery Northern Ireland team, translating ideas into action and ensuring effective reporting to monitor and share evidence of impact. You will lead species recovery work for priority butterflies and moths, setting objectives and driving targeted action to recover populations of some of the most threatened species. You will also lead landscape-scale conservation projects using butterflies and moths as indicators of nature recovery.
Developing and delivering new approaches to contribute to broader nature recovery, including exploring potential nature markets and expanding advice and services to partners, will be key. You will manage the Nature Recovery team, including direct line management, budgeting, work planning, resource management, performance management, training, staff development and well-being.
Additional duties include leading new nature recovery projects, collaborating with fundraising and finance teams to secure external funding, managing budgets, ensuring coordinated action across BC staff, branches and volunteers, supporting volunteering activities, working with policy teams and NGO partners on major policy issues, and promoting the impact of BC’s work through internal and external communications.
You will uphold BC’s values of Excellence, Passionate, Inspiring and Collaborative, maintain a strategic overview of UK-wide delivery, contribute to policy and strategic planning, and undertake any other reasonable duties as required. Compliance with equal opportunities, BC policies, procedures and codes of conduct is essential, along with active participation in professional development activities.
