About the Role
As Head of Nature Recovery Northern Ireland, you will lead and deliver Butterfly Conservation’s strategic aims for nature recovery in Northern Ireland, maximising impact for butterflies, moths and people. You will implement BC’s objectives through leadership of the Northern Ireland Nature Recovery team, setting and managing budgets, targets and workplans while inspiring and enabling staff to achieve their best. You will develop and strengthen collaboration with BC staff, volunteers, stakeholders and partners to drive progress on targeted species recovery programmes, landscape-scale initiatives and wider nature recovery across Northern Ireland.

Your responsibilities will include designing and managing workplans for the Nature Recovery Northern Ireland team, leading species recovery work for priority butterflies and moths, and overseeing landscape-scale conservation projects using butterflies and moths as indicators of nature recovery. You will develop new approaches to contribute to broader nature recovery, including exploring potential nature markets and expanding advice and services to partners.

You will lead, manage and be accountable for the Nature Recovery team, including line management, budgeting, work planning, resource management, performance management, training, staff development and well-being. You will also lead the development of new nature recovery projects, liaise with partners, plan and design projects, manage budgets and report to funders.

Collaboration with Nature Recovery, Fundraising and Finance teams will be key to building a case for support and developing bids for external funding. You will ensure effective budget control and financial reporting, work closely with BC staff, Branches and volunteers to deliver coordinated nature recovery action, and support the Engagement and Volunteering team to put people at the heart of the work.

Additionally, you will work with BC’s policy team and NGO partners to support collaborative policy work and advocate BC priorities in Northern Ireland. Promoting the impact of BC’s work through internal and external communications will be an important part of your role.

You will uphold BC’s values of Excellence, Passionate, Inspiring and Collaborative, maintain a strategic overview of delivery across the UK, contribute to policy and strategic planning, and undertake any other reasonable duties as required. All duties will be performed in compliance with equal opportunities and BC’s policies, procedures and codes of conduct, with active participation in ongoing professional development.
