About the Role
As Head of Nature Recovery Scotland, you will lead and deliver Butterfly Conservation’s strategic aims for nature recovery in Scotland, maximising impact for butterflies, moths and people. You will implement BC’s objectives through leadership of the Scotland Nature Recovery team, setting and managing budgets, targets and workplans while inspiring and enabling staff to achieve their best. Your role will involve developing and strengthening collaboration with BC staff, volunteers, stakeholders and partners to drive progress on targeted species recovery programmes, landscape-scale initiatives and wider nature recovery across Scotland.
You will drive delivery of BC’s strategic objectives by designing and managing workplans for the Nature Recovery Scotland team, translating ideas into action and ensuring effective reporting to monitor and share evidence of impact. Leading species recovery work for priority butterflies and moths, you will set objectives and drive targeted action to recover populations of some of Scotland’s most threatened species.
In addition, you will lead landscape-scale conservation projects using butterflies and moths as indicators of nature recovery, develop new approaches to contribute to broader nature recovery including exploring potential nature markets, and expand BC’s advice and services to reach more partners. You will manage and be accountable for the Nature Recovery team in Scotland, including line management, budgeting, work planning, resource management, performance management, training, staff development and well-being.
You will also lead the development of new nature recovery projects, liaising with partners, planning and designing projects, budgeting and reporting to funders. Collaborating with Nature Recovery, Fundraising and Finance teams, you will help build cases for support and develop bids for external funding through partnerships, appeals and services.
Overseeing management of BC’s Nature Reserves in Scotland through Conservation Managers and Ecology Services, you will maximise their contribution to nature recovery. You will ensure close working relationships between BC staff, Branches and key volunteers to deliver coordinated nature recovery action aligned with BC’s strategic goals.
Supporting the Engagement and Volunteering team, you will help develop and deliver volunteering activities across Scotland, putting people at the heart of BC’s work. You will work with BC’s policy team and NGO partners to support collaborative work on major policy issues and advocate BC priorities in Scotland.
Finally, you will promote the impact of BC’s work across Scotland through internal impact reporting and inspiring, engaging external communications.
General
You will promote BC’s values of Excellence, Passionate, Inspiring and Collaborative in all aspects of your role.
