About the Role
As Head of Nature Recovery Wales, you will lead and deliver Butterfly Conservation’s strategic aims for nature recovery in Wales, maximising impact for butterflies, moths and people. You will implement BC’s objectives by leading the Wales Nature Recovery team, managing budgets, targets and workplans, while inspiring and enabling staff to perform at their best. You will develop and strengthen collaboration with BC staff, volunteers, stakeholders and partners to drive progress on targeted species recovery programmes, landscape-scale initiatives and wider nature recovery across Wales.

Your responsibilities include designing and managing workplans for the Nature Recovery Wales team, translating ideas into action, and ensuring effective reporting to monitor and share evidence of impact. You will lead species recovery efforts for priority butterflies and moths, setting objectives and driving targeted action to recover populations of some of the most threatened species.

You will oversee landscape-scale conservation projects using butterflies and moths as indicators of nature recovery, develop new approaches to contribute to broader nature recovery including exploring potential nature markets, and expand advice and services to reach more partners. You will manage and be accountable for the Nature Recovery team in Wales, including line management, budgeting, work planning, resource management, performance management, training, staff development and well-being.

Additional duties include leading the development of new nature recovery projects, collaborating with fundraising and finance teams to secure external funding, overseeing management of BC’s Nature Reserves in Wales, ensuring close working relationships between BC staff, branches and volunteers, supporting volunteering activities, working with policy teams and NGO partners on major policy issues, and promoting the impact of BC’s work through internal and external communications.

You will promote BC’s values of Excellence, Passionate, Inspiring and Collaborative in all aspects of your role, maintain a strategic overview of delivery across the UK, contribute to policy and strategic planning, and undertake any other reasonable duties as required. All duties must be performed in compliance with equal opportunities and BC’s policies, procedures and codes of conduct. Professional development is actively encouraged.
