About the Role
The University of West London (UWL) is a leading modern university recognised for its commitment to sustainability and student experience. The Head of Sustainability role is a 12-month fixed term maternity cover reporting to the Pro Vice Chancellor Property and Sustainability. You will lead the University’s Sustainability Department, providing strategic direction across the environmental, social, and economic pillars of sustainability. This role involves working collaboratively with staff, students, academics, and external partners to enhance sustainability performance, reduce environmental impact, ensure statutory compliance, and deliver initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. You will lead multiple workstreams to drive operational and behavioural change throughout the University, supporting the ambition to become a Net Zero institution (scopes 1 and 2) by 2030, framed by the Impact 2028 business strategy. This is an exciting opportunity to influence sustainability within higher education and contribute to a refreshed Sustainability Strategy at UWL.

Experience
Proven track record in sustainability with comprehensive knowledge across key areas including Greenhouse Gas emissions and carbon reduction strategies, Environmental Management Systems, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and behavioural change. Experience leading high-quality teams and working within cross-functional business environments is essential.

Qualifications
Educated to degree level in a subject related to sustainability and/or environmental management.
