About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and influential Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager to lead and advance our safety culture across both UK manufacturing sites and UK-based field service teams. This high-visibility role is responsible for ensuring legal compliance, upholding CPM corporate safety and environmental standards, and acting as the critical link between corporate leadership and frontline employees. The successful candidate will be a confident communicator, a visible leader on the shop floor, and a trusted partner to both Operations and HR.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a strong, visible presence across all UK sites and with field service teams by observing work practices, mentoring staff, leading toolbox talks, and reinforcing safety values daily.
- Build a culture of accountability and continuous improvement by partnering closely with site and shift managers.
- Act as a role model for behavioural safety, encouraging ownership of safety responsibilities at every level.
- Lead investigations for incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions using root cause analysis and trend data to drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Partner with HR to ensure appropriate and timely disciplinary processes when necessary, aligned with company policy and conducted with transparency and fairness.
- Ensure full compliance with UK Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation across sites and field operations.
- Conduct and maintain risk assessments, COSHH assessments, machinery and fire safety evaluations, and maintain ISO management systems (e.g., ISO 45001, 14001).
- Lead preparations for and responses to HSE inspections or audits.
- Extend safety oversight to field-based teams across the UK, ensuring risk control measures are in place for off-site work, travel, and client site hazards.
- Develop mobile workforce safety protocols, including lone working, manual handling, and field-specific PPE standards.
- Ensure conformance to core environmental responsibilities, including waste handling, spill response, pollution prevention, and basic reporting requirements.
- Support the implementation of environmental improvements in line with CPM sustainability goals and regulatory expectations.
- Oversee the contractor management process, from prequalification and RAMS reviews to permit-to-work systems and on-site supervision.
- Conduct regular audits of contractor activities and ensure safe systems of work are followed without exception.
- Serve as the key safety liaison between corporate HSE leadership and the UK workforce, translating corporate priorities and initiatives into actionable site-level practices.
- Ensure all UK locations align with CPM global health, safety, and environmental standards and expectations.
- Deliver engaging training and induction programs for staff, visitors, and contractors.
- Coordinate health surveillance and occupational hygiene monitoring where required.
- Organise and lead emergency preparedness drills, fire evacuations, and business continuity exercises.
- Develop and present clear, data-driven reports on HSE performance, incidents, compliance status, and cultural progress to site leadership and executive teams.
- Provide strategic input and advocate for safety in decision-making forums, board meetings, and capital project planning.
Working Conditions
Site-based role within a manufacturing environment. Travel to other UK sites or off-site training locations will be required. Mandatory PPE conditions apply across all company sites (PPE provided).

Experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a UK-based manufacturing or industrial HSE management role.
- Experience overseeing remote teams or field-based service operations is a strong advantage.
Qualifications
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) required.
- IOSH Chartered Membership desirable.
- AET/PTLLS or similar training qualifications desirable.
Technical & Legal Expertise
- Deep understanding of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- Strong background in risk assessment, ISO systems (45001/14001), incident investigation, and compliance management.
- Familiarity with Lean/6Sigma tools is a plus.
