This role supports the England Peat Map (EPM) project, an initiative that delivers evidence baseline products describing the extent, depth, and condition of peat in England. In its second phase, the project focuses on improving peat extent and depth models, developing and maintaining the Peatland Restoration Register, creating new peatland condition monitoring tools, and integrating data to support the England Peat Action Plan and Defra policies.
The post holder will manage diverse data types from multiple sources for modelling the England Peat Map. Responsibilities include acquiring peat survey data, managing data licensing and intellectual property rights, curating and manipulating data, and supporting the national field survey program by quality assuring and processing field data.

Experience
- Strong data management skills including working with data licensing and standards such as metadata, Open Data, and GDPR.
- Experience transforming and integrating different data types (spatial and non-spatial) from multiple sources.
- Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and Microsoft Access.
- Experience with cloud data management and ArcGIS Online.
- Proficiency in Python and/or R scripting.
- Experience in data modelling (e.g. ArcGIS Model Builder) and data analysis methods.
- Experience working with Remote Sensing data.
- Strong presentation skills, including producing guidance, maps, and statistics for publication.
- Ability to work within agreed Quality Assurance standards.

Qualifications
- Relevant experience and skills as outlined above are essential.
- Formal qualifications in data science, GIS, environmental science, or related fields are desirable but not explicitly required.
