About the Role

We are seeking a HSE Adviser and Environmental Specialist to support the delivery of a multi-year HSE Strategy focused on achieving our Goal Zero ambition, promoting employee health and wellbeing, protecting and enhancing the Jealott's Hill environment, and advancing the HSE maturity of the site.
In this role, you will act as the site subject matter expert in environment management and sustainability, owning and developing the site environmental management system and associated processes to ensure compliance with Syngenta HSE Management System, UK HSE regulations, and best practices. You will lead improvements to protect and enhance the environment and provide competent, professional, and independent science-based HSE advice across health, safety, and environmental disciplines.
Key responsibilities include supporting the multi-year HSE Strategy delivery, monitoring legislative and regulatory changes, liaising with regulatory authorities, leading HSE improvement programmes and projects, maintaining auditable records, providing HSE training, contributing to inspections and HSE committees, analysing HSE performance data, and collaborating with the Infrastructure team to integrate HSE into all activities.
Jealott's Hill International Research Centre is a major global R&D site with approximately 800 scientists and support staff working in a semi-rural setting between Bracknell and Maidenhead. The site focuses on discovery of new active ingredients, formulation technologies, product safety, and technical support.
Experience
- Broad experience in health, safety, and environmental management, ideally within life sciences or a similar industry.
- Experience across laboratory, office, and construction environments.
- Proven track record working with UK regulatory bodies such as the Environment Agency (EA) and DEFRA.
- Experience conducting risk assessments, audits, emergency response, and incident investigations.
- Experience in sustainability reporting including SBTi, UNSDG, ESOS.
- Experience working in complex global businesses or large campuses with international, multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications
- Degree in engineering, chemical, biology, or environmental science.
- NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent Health and Safety qualification (essential).
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent and Environmental Management qualification (e.g. IEMA) preferred.
- Auditor and Incident Investigator training essential; lead auditor/investigator training desirable (ISO 14001 or ISO 45001).
- Good working knowledge of HSE systems and platforms such as Enablon.
- Minimum ISEP and/or Grad IOSH membership, working towards chartership.
