£45,760 - £60,000 per annum, depending on suitability, qualifications, and level of experience.
About the Role
At AWE, your work helps keep the nation safe. We are recruiting a HSE Manager to collaborate with designers, project managers, and operators during the early stages of the facility lifecycle and rekit projects. You will ensure all HSE legal requirements are met and risks to the end user are minimized during design, transition from construction to operations, and handover phases. This role focuses on facility design and transition rather than construction (CDM) HSE positions.
Key responsibilities include influencing the design of new builds and facility rekits to identify hazards and incorporate risk control measures ensuring the facility is ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable). You will represent the end user to ensure installed equipment and processes comply with all HSE legislation, confirm all necessary licences and permits are in place prior to handover, and ensure all HSE justifications, documentation, and arrangements demonstrate compliance.
You will be required to gain a firm understanding of AWE's Management System to support implementation in new or changed workplaces and develop a good understanding of operational risks to address them throughout project phases. Strong interpersonal skills are essential to work constructively with diverse internal and external stakeholders. You may also lead hazard identification and risk mitigation workshops such as HAZOPs.

Experience
- Experience in facility design and transition to operational facilities.
- Familiarity with hazard identification and risk mitigation workshops (e.g., HAZOPs).
- Understanding of HSE disciplines including Process Safety, Environment, Safety Cases.
- Knowledge of current HSE legislation, standards, guidance, and licence conditions relevant to the role.
- Experience with configuration and change management techniques.
- Ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders.

Qualifications
- Degree in a science or engineering subject or vocational qualification (HND or equivalent) preferred.
- Understanding of HSE management system standards.
- Willingness to obtain and maintain necessary security clearance (SC or DV) funded by AWE.
