This Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager position is a key role within the Plant Leadership Team (PLT). You will be responsible for implementing group HSE strategies, ensuring legal compliance and company standards are met and maintained. Safety is our top priority, with the belief that nothing is more important than ensuring everyone returns home safely.

While group standards provide a framework, each site has unique needs. This role empowers you to make site-specific adjustments to engage the workforce effectively, using your fresh perspective to identify and drive improvement opportunities. The site is undergoing ongoing change, and you will play a vital role in ensuring these changes are delivered safely.

You will work closely with stakeholders at all levels across the site and beyond, maintaining a visible presence on the shop floor to identify opportunities, build relationships, and support leadership development.

Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the cultural and behavioural occupational health and safety step change programme by collaborating with managers and employees and providing appropriate training
- Developing HSE competence across all departments and levels
- Coordinating investigations of accidents or incidents affecting people, environment, property, or process, liaising with enforcement authorities
- Taking accountability for delivering the company HSE strategy at site level
- Identifying and mitigating site risks appropriately
- Supporting and influencing the Plant Leadership Team to deliver a consistent, continuously improving, and sustainable HSE and security programme
- Working with group teams to implement effective occupational HSE management systems
- Ensuring site capabilities to deliver HSE plans for continuous improvement
- Auditing local compliance with SDUK and global standards and identifying corrective actions

Requirements

Experience
- NEBOSH H&S Diploma holder with experience in a manufacturing environment
- Proven people management skills and experience driving cultural change programmes
- Knowledge of ammonia and/or listeria requirements is a distinct advantage
- Experience with IPC/EP permitting and working knowledge of UK legislation and reporting requirements
- Skilled in managing external relationships with enforcement agencies such as HSE, Fire, and Environment Agency
- Strong knowledge and experience with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 standards
- Experience at manager level with well-developed communication skills, able to present to varied audiences
- Ability to deliver performance improvements through a structured and systematic approach
- Good coaching and influencing skills with the ability to motivate others
- Experience with budgetary planning, analysis, and control with strong attention to detail

Qualifications
