About the Role
Syngenta Crop Protection is a global leader in agricultural innovation, committed to enabling farmers to grow productively and sustainably. We are seeking an experienced HSE Manager to own, develop and lead a multi-year HSE strategy aligned with our Crop Protection R&D goals. This role supports our Goal Zero ambition, promotes employee health and wellbeing, protects the Jealott's Hill environment, and advances the HSE maturity of the site.
As HSE Manager, you will ensure compliance with Syngenta's HSE Management System, UK HSE legislation, and best practices. You will lead and develop the HSE team and manage communication for all HSE programmes and initiatives. Key responsibilities include driving the development of qualitative and quantitative measures to track progress, maintaining a robust Emergency Management System, embedding continuous improvement in HSE operations, and fostering a strong incident investigation culture.
You will act as an HSE ambassador, maintain auditable records, exchange knowledge across global and UK Syngenta HSE networks, and contribute as a member of the Infrastructure Leadership Team. Budget management for HSE activities is also a core part of this role.
Jealott's Hill site is a major global R&D centre situated in semi-rural surroundings between Bracknell and Maidenhead, hosting approximately 800 scientists and support staff. The site focuses on discovery of new active ingredients, formulation technologies, product safety, and technical support.

Experience
- Proven record of developing and leading HSE strategic plans
- Experience managing and developing professional HSE teams
- Working knowledge of UK regulatory bodies (e.g. EA, DEFRA) and detailed understanding of UK legislation
- Broad HSE experience across laboratory, office, and construction environments, ideally in life sciences or similar industry
- Experience working in complex global businesses or large international multidisciplinary teams
- Experience managing operational budgets
- Familiarity with common HSE systems and platforms (e.g. Enablon)
