About the Role
The HSE Senior Advisor is responsible for providing strategic oversight and targeted delivery of the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) agenda within the Refining, Supply & Midstream (RS&M) organization across Europe and North America. This role ensures the effective implementation of bp's HSE strategy through systematic operating plans, including Annual Operating Plan deliverables and governance via the RS&M Safety and Operations Risk Committee (SORC). Working closely with RS&M operational teams, entity, ST&S HSE teams, central HSE&C functions and Safety & Operational Risk Assurance (S&ORA) disciplines, the role ensures alignment with bp's Operating Management System (OMS) and group-wide safety expectations.

The HSE Senior Advisor plays a key role in embedding consistent, risk-based safety practices across logistics operations, reinforcing bp's commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement in safety performance.

Key responsibilities include developing and coordinating strategic HSE plans aligned with bp's group priorities; supporting incident reporting and regulatory interpretation; leading performance monitoring and management information processes; analysing incident investigations for trends and interventions; maintaining compliance systems for road, rail, pipeline logistics and laboratory operations; verifying risk prevention and mitigation barriers; guiding risk identification and mitigation activities; adapting and rolling out procedures to enhance safety and operational performance; acting as Single Point of Accountability for Annual Operating Plan and SORC agenda coordination; leading OMS reviews and self-verification processes; managing incident investigation and learning processes including staff training; and leading Annual Self-Verification and Haulier Health Check programmes.

Travel up to 10% is expected for this role.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven ability to coach and facilitate key meetings and forums with senior leadership.
- Strong understanding of bp operations across secondary transport, retail (including forecourt delivery risk and mitigation), rail, terminals, and pipelines.
- Demonstrated expertise in incident investigation procedures and classification methodologies.
- Skilled in building trusted relationships through open, honest, and constructive communication.
- Experience in developing and administering management systems aligned with external codes and standards such as ISO9000, ISO 14001 is desirable.
- Understanding of Trading, Shipping, Operations and Marine organisations is desirable.

Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant science or engineering-based subject or equivalent experience.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
- In-depth knowledge of bp's Operating Management System (OMS) essentials and risk management principles.
- CSP or IOSH membership (Chartered or working towards) is desirable.
