About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive difference working within Norfolk County Council’s Specialist Advice Team. You will be part of the Environment Service, using your expertise to protect, enhance, and promote the Council’s assets for the benefit of residents and visitors. Working alongside a passionate, knowledgeable, and experienced team, you will deliver projects and provide professional advice to Environment Service colleagues, Planning and other Council services, Councillors, and members of the public.
This role involves supporting the planning, design, development, and delivery of an efficient green infrastructure and landscape programme. You will provide technical support and advice to Norfolk County Council, ensuring the natural environment of Norfolk is safeguarded and enhanced through the planning system, meeting legal obligations and supporting the local economy.
You will provide day-to-day landscape advice, support project delivery, and take accountability for meeting objectives on time. The role requires knowledge and experience of landscape designs and masterplans, as well as working knowledge of planning documents and landscape assessments. Your work will contribute to delivering Biodiversity Net Gain and supporting the Local Nature Recovery Strategy.
Representing the Environment Service at meetings, public consultations, and other events, you will maintain strong working relationships with project partners and external stakeholders. Delivering quality work to deadlines with a flexible, collaborative, calm, and positive approach to problem-solving is essential.
You will collaborate with colleagues across Norfolk County Council, including Arboriculture, Ecology, Historic Environment, Public Rights of Way, Development Management, Spatial Planning, and Highways, to ensure new developments and infrastructure schemes maintain and enhance Norfolk’s landscape.
Key responsibilities include responding to reports and planning applications, visiting proposed development sites, supporting landscape conservation projects, and contributing to the development of green infrastructure at a landscape scale, including delivery of the Local Nature Recovery Strategy.
Experience
- Knowledge and experience of landscape designs and masterplans
- Working knowledge of planning documents and landscape assessments
- Experience delivering quality work to deadlines
- Ability to interpret submitted assessments and plans

Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification, or relevant experience in landscape architecture or a related environmental discipline
- Membership of a professional body or willingness to work towards this
- Up-to-date knowledge of Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment
- Understanding of landscape character assessment
