About the Role
Are you passionate about the environment and looking for a new challenge to advance your career? This is a unique opportunity to join Norfolk County Council’s Specialist Advice Team within the Environment Service. You will work collaboratively to protect, enhance, and promote the Council’s assets for the benefit of residents and visitors. As a Landscape Officer, you will support the planning, design, development, and delivery of green infrastructure and landscape programmes, providing technical advice and project support to ensure Norfolk’s natural environment is safeguarded and enhanced through the planning system.

This role involves delivering detailed landscape advice on planning applications and strategies, ensuring compliance with legal obligations, and contributing to the Norfolk economy. You will work closely with Environment Service specialists and external partners, representing the service at meetings, public consultations, and events. The role requires strong project management skills to deliver work on time and to schedule, alongside a calm and positive approach to problem-solving.

You will collaborate with colleagues across various departments including Arboriculture, Ecology, Historic Environment, Public Rights of Way, Development Management, Spatial Planning, and Highways to ensure new developments and infrastructure schemes maintain and enhance Norfolk’s landscape. Responsibilities include responding to planning consultations, visiting development sites, supporting landscape conservation projects, and contributing to the delivery of the Local Nature Recovery Strategy and Biodiversity Net Gain objectives.

Requirements

Experience
- Knowledge and experience of landscape designs and masterplans
- Working knowledge of planning documents and landscape assessments
- Experience delivering quality work to deadlines
- Ability to interpret submitted assessments and plans
- Experience or willingness to learn about Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects is desirable

Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in landscape architecture or a related environmental discipline, or relevant experience
- Membership of a professional body or willingness to work towards membership
- Up-to-date knowledge of Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment and landscape character assessment
