About the Role
The Accountable Finance Lead manages ClientEarth’s Accountable Finance team, part of the European Financial & Economic Systems group. This role is responsible for nurturing deep legal expertise to drive systemic change aligned with ClientEarth’s strategic priorities. The Lead identifies priorities within their legal practice areas to better protect people and nature, managing a small group of lawyers to ensure effective delivery of litigation, advocacy, and capacity-building objectives. The role also involves role-modelling ClientEarth’s values and inspiring colleagues around a unified global strategy.
Main Duties:
- People Leadership: Leading people management activities including professional and career development, sustainable working practices, and regular performance reviews for lawyers and practitioners within the sub-group.
- Community of Practice Leadership: Driving people and capability development through effective knowledge management, upskilling, and creating/adopting legal strategies, tools, and templates.
- Programme Leadership: Contributing as a legal expert and people leader to the team’s day-to-day work; representing ClientEarth and the Accountable Finance team in relevant coalitions, meetings, and events, including public speaking where appropriate.
Experience
- Substantial experience as a practising lawyer and/or legal academic with expertise in corporate or financial sector laws.
- Demonstrated interest and understanding of climate, toxics, and/or nature/biodiversity related issues.
- Knowledge of UK and/or EU law and institutions, including litigation in UK and/or European courts.

Qualifications
- Qualified lawyer or legal academic with relevant experience in corporate or financial law sectors.
