About the Role
Are you passionate about supporting people to expand their skills through the power of gardening? Share Community provides horticultural training and gardening therapy to adults with learning disabilities, helping them develop employability, build confidence, and improve their social skills. We are a registered charity and a centre for training and wellbeing, offering programmes that help adults with learning disabilities, autism, and other support needs become happier, healthier, and more independent. Our vision is a world where disabled people are fully included in society, living the life they choose, and we need talented people to help us make that happen.
We are seeking an experienced horticulture trainer to lead the training programme at our beautiful garden site in Tooting. You will lead, develop, and deliver horticulture training programmes designed to help students enjoy greater independence and move closer to employment.
Main responsibilities include leading, developing, and delivering horticulture training to disabled adults ranging from entry level to Level 2; championing a strong work ethic in the garden; helping students achieve qualifications and develop work-related skills; linking closely with our on-site social enterprise Share Nurseries, which grows and sells plants to the public; managing three members of the horticulture project by overseeing their projects and providing support and experience; maintaining student records; overseeing the preparation of student portfolios for verification; and reporting on progress.
Experience
Occupational competence in horticulture, ideally qualified to Level 3 or above. Proven experience delivering horticulture training and successfully organising and leading a small team.
About you
First-rate interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and relate to people from all backgrounds. Ability to enthuse and motivate people who may find learning challenging, demonstrating patience, empathy, and understanding of autism and learning disabilities. A strong commitment to the inclusion of disabled people in all aspects of life.
Qualifications
A qualification in horticulture therapy is advantageous but not essential. A strong interest and passion for the healing power of plants is a must.
