About the Role
Are you passionate about local, fresh and seasonal produce? Cultivate, host of Bwyd Powys Food—the sustainable food partnership for Powys—is seeking a highly motivated and organised Local Food Systems Officer to join the team. The vision of Bwyd Powys Food is "Good food for Powys! Where local, sustainable and healthy food supports communities, its people and the environment," delivered through the Powys Food Strategy and Action Plan.
This role involves supporting the creation of a food hub in Hay and developing and expanding the food hub in Newtown. You will build and strengthen relationships with partners, growers, and customers across Powys to develop local distribution networks. Key responsibilities include identifying and vetting producers, facilitating their integration into local food networks, and training suppliers on relevant software such as the Open Food Network.
You will work with suppliers to develop new product lines to meet demand, organise pick-up and delivery routes, coordinate collections and deliveries between partner organisations, monitor produce quality and handle complaints, and organise staff and volunteer drivers. Promotion of the food hubs across online and offline platforms, managing health and safety for those you supervise, and maintaining connections with processing facilities and producers are also essential.
Collaboration with other members of the Sustainable Food Places network to share knowledge and experiences related to supply chain development is expected. This is a 24-month contract with potential extension pending future funding, reporting to Senior Management.
