About the Role
Rewilding Britain is seeking a Media and PR Manager to strategically guide our public story and help us reach our goal of rewilding flourishing across 30% of Britain. This is your chance to elevate our media and PR efforts by shaping bold, creative storytelling that generates wonder, shifts public perception, and builds widespread engagement. As a transformative thinker, you will translate rewilding in practice into inspiring stories that connect people to nature. You will serve as a senior spokesperson, cultivate strong relationships with journalists and influencers across England, Scotland, and Wales, and be the trusted voice for our credible work. This role involves leading and executing all media and public relations activities, embedding the media strategy into our 5-year plan, managing day-to-day media functions, and achieving ambitious media targets for 2030. You will also take ownership of crisis communications, manage the growing PR function including the Ambassador programme, and proactively lead courageous and playful PR initiatives designed to generate widespread media engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and track a proactive, high-impact Media Strategy aligned with organisational objectives and the 2030 mission.
- Manage the media function including inbox monitoring, coordinating responses, and generating positive coverage across print, broadcast, and digital channels.
- Lead crisis communications planning and act as senior coordinator during unexpected events.
- Monitor and evaluate media coverage and PR campaigns to inform strategic adjustments.
- Manage and develop PR activities including the Ambassador programme and engagement with influencers and celebrities.
- Cultivate strong relationships with journalists, editors, producers, and stakeholders across England, Scotland, and Wales.
- Provide media training and briefing updates to spokespeople.
- Collaborate with rewilding alliances in Scotland and Wales to develop shared media opportunities.
- Draft and edit high-quality media materials including press releases, briefings, reactive statements, and Q&As.
- Manage media and PR budget and oversee external resources such as freelancers and agencies.
- Represent Rewilding Britain at events, exhibitions, workshops, conferences, and rallies to advance media and PR objectives.
Experience
- At least 10 years of significant experience in senior media or PR roles, with a minimum of 2 years at manager level or above.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing media strategies that achieve measurable targets.
- Extensive experience pitching stories and securing high-impact coverage across national and regional media (broadcast, print, digital).
- Expertise in managing advanced crisis communications and complex reputational issues.
- Experience guiding organisational decision-making on reputational matters.
- Strong history of managing key external relationships with journalists and media.
- Experience working with Ambassador/Influencer programmes and high-profile individuals is desirable.
- Experience engaging with media and stakeholders across England, Scotland, and Wales is advantageous.

Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent professional training in journalism, communications, media, public relations, or related field, or at least six years relevant experience.
- Relevant professional qualifications such as CIPR Diploma/Chartership or NCTJ Diploma are desirable.
- Expert proficiency in media monitoring and evaluation software.
- Excellent budget management skills.
- Strong understanding of current media landscape and PR trends.
