Hours
35 hours per week. Flexibility in how hours are worked but will include some out of hours and weekend working.
Salary
£26,450 per annum
About the Role
The Mink Control Officer will continue the momentum of mink control work across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, focusing on engaging landowners and volunteers to trap and dispatch mink using mink rafts equipped with traps and remote monitoring alarm units. The role involves close collaboration with the Mammal Team to monitor the impact on local water vole populations. Key responsibilities include coordinating and expanding the mink control programme, undertaking monitoring, trapping and dispatching mink, developing and maintaining relationships with landowners and partners, training landowners and volunteers, monitoring trap alarm units online and troubleshooting, collating data including GIS use, providing talks and written articles to promote the project, and assisting with water vole surveys. The post holder reports to the Mammal Team Project Manager and has no line management responsibilities.
Experience
- Skilled in mammal trapping, handling and species control
- Experience engaging with landowners and project partners
- Ability to rapidly learn new technology and software
About you
- Excellent communication skills
- Willingness to use an air weapon to humanely dispatch mink when required
- Good knowledge of riparian mammal identification
- Ability to share knowledge and deliver training sessions
- Demonstrates BBOWT behaviours and values
- Holds a full, valid UK driving licence or is eligible for funding via Access to Work for a support worker driver
