Nature Conservation Officer: £32,061 - £34,434 per year
Senior Nature Conservation Officer: £42,839 - £46,142 per year

About the Role
Join Leicester City Council and play a key role in shaping Leicester’s Nature Recovery. Leicester is at the forefront of developing proactive approaches to nature conservation in the city and beyond, with designated areas including Local Nature Reserves like Aylestone Meadows, Local Wildlife Sites important for biodiversity, and larger parks rich in wildlife often linked to the River Soar corridor. The council also manages heritage conservation areas such as green spaces like New Walk.

This is an excellent opportunity to utilise your substantial experience in nature conservation and work alongside a highly professional conservation team specialising in the natural and historic environment. The team is passionate and dedicated, providing expert advice and technical guidance while working collaboratively with key stakeholders to protect and enhance the city’s natural and historic assets.

Roles available:
- Nature Conservation Officer: Deliver practical nature conservation projects on the ground, support the Planning Service, and engage with communities to raise awareness of nature’s importance to the city.
- Senior Nature Conservation Officer: A specialist role focusing on the technical delivery of Biodiversity Net Gain, working closely with the Planning Service and other council departments to project manage nature conservation delivery.
- Senior Nature Conservation Officer (alternative focus): Emphasis on delivering the council’s Biodiversity Action Plan and contributing to the wider Local Nature Recovery Strategy, focusing on habitat and species work on the ground as well as supporting the Planning Service.

Requirements

Experience
Substantial experience in nature conservation is essential to effectively contribute to the delivery of practical projects, technical guidance, and collaborative work with stakeholders.

Passionate and dedicated to nature conservation with the ability to work both independently and as part of a professional team. You should be committed to protecting and enhancing natural and historic assets and able to engage effectively with communities and colleagues across departments.

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline are desirable to support the technical aspects of the role and career development.
