About the Role
Smart Energy GB is a not-for-profit company, limited by guarantee and funded by energy suppliers. Established by the government, it supports the smart meter implementation programme by encouraging domestic and non-domestic customers to get smart meters to better manage their energy consumption. The organisation is focused on completing the roll-out of smart meters to all homes and small businesses by 2030. The Board oversees the development and implementation of the company’s strategy to meet this objective, working closely with the executive team who manage day-to-day operations.

As a Non-Executive Director representing the interests of energy suppliers, you will serve as a full director of the company with legal responsibilities to exercise independent judgement and act in the best interests of Smart Energy GB. You will participate in Board meetings (held six times a year), scrutinise the annual business plan and budget, and ensure the company delivers on its Performance Management Framework targets in line with its objectives and governance requirements.

Key responsibilities include preparing for and actively participating in Board meetings, supporting the Chair and Audit and Risk Committee Chair at the AGM, ensuring legal compliance and robust risk management, and providing ad hoc advice to management. You may also be invited to join Board sub-committees such as the remuneration or Audit and Risk Committee. If appointed to the Audit and Risk Committee, you will attend approximately four meetings per year and contribute to its proceedings.

Additionally, you will chair two advisory sub-committees tasked with developing the Performance Management Framework for domestic and non-domestic sectors, receiving additional remuneration for this role.

Board meetings are currently scheduled for: 4th February 2026 (AM), 24th March 2026 (AM), 7th May 2026 (AM), 9th July 2025 (AM), 24th September 2025 (AM), and 12th November 2025 (AM).
