About the Role

The Northern Regional HSE Manager will report to the Head of HSE and provide competent Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) support across UK manufacturing sites acquired by THG. You will work collaboratively with site leads to develop and implement HSE strategies, programmes, and plans that ensure safe working environments for all employees and visitors. The role involves conducting regular HSE audits, supporting compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation, and driving continual improvement in standards. You will also assist with contractor management, accident investigations, risk assessments, and environmental compliance to prevent legal or reputational risks. This is a key role within the Central Functions team, which supports the entire business by safeguarding health, safety, and security across all sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Support development of location-specific HSE strategies, programmes, and plans
- Proactively monitor and challenge HSE standards to promote continual improvement
- Provide guidance to project teams and contractors on effective safety methodologies
- Perform regular HSE audits and communicate findings to local management
- Implement immediate corrective actions and oversee preventative measures
- Advise colleagues on statutory HSE duties within their areas of responsibility
- Assist in developing and maintaining the company HSE Management System
- Participate in contractor vetting and review of risk assessments and method statements
- Report all HSE hazards, issues, or near misses to management
- Assist with accident/incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Manage HSE purchase orders and conduct new and review existing risk assessments
- Conduct and review COSHH assessments and assist with fire risk assessments
- Support environmental compliance including Environmental Impact Assessments and investigations

Experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a HSE role within food and product manufacturing facilities and operations
- Proven ability to manage HSE issues swiftly and effectively
- Experience maintaining an accredited Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS), ISO 45001 desirable
- Experience delivering IOSH Managing Safely training is desirable

- Strong understanding and working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental regulations
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple site teams and contractors
- Proactive and detail-oriented with excellent communication skills
Qualifications
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent mandatory
- IEMA Environmental Foundation Certificate desirable
