About Health, Safety & Environment and the Role
The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) team ensures safe working environments for all THG employees and visitors. They provide on-site support to manage risks, complete audits, and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation. Maintaining legal environmental compliance is essential to avoid litigation, financial penalties, and reputational damage. The Northern Regional HSE Manager reports to the Head of HSE and works collaboratively with site leads across UK acquired sites, providing competent HSE support.
Key Responsibilities
- Support development of location HSE strategies, programmes, and plans
- Proactively monitor and challenge standards to promote continual improvement
- Provide guidance to THG project teams and contractors on effective safety methodologies
- Perform regular Health, Safety & Environment audits and report findings to local management
- Implement immediate corrective actions and oversee further preventative measures
- Advise and support colleagues on their statutory HSE duties
- Assist in developing the company HSE Management System
- Participate in contractor vetting and management processes
- Review and approve contractors' risk assessments and method statements
- Report all HSE hazards, issues, or near misses to HSE Manager and local teams
- Assist with accident/incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action reporting
- Raise HSE purchase orders
- Undertake new and review existing risk assessments
- Conduct and review COSHH assessments
- Assist in fire risk assessment processes
- Support environmental matters including Environmental Impact Assessments and investigations, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation
Experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a HSE role within food and product manufacturing facilities and operations
- Proven ability to deal with HSE issues swiftly and effectively
- Experience maintaining an accredited Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS), ISO 45001 desirable
- Experience delivering IOSH Managing Safely training is desirable

Qualifications
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent mandatory
- IEMA Environmental Foundation Certificate desirable
