About the Role
The Cromarty Firth Watershed Environmental Trust is a newly established charity dedicated to improving river health, restoring biodiversity, addressing climate change impacts, influencing land use practices, and promoting river catchment partnerships among landowners, organisations, groups, and communities. We are passionate about nature, land use, and people, aiming to support local livelihoods, create spaces for health and well-being, deliver education and green skills, and champion cultural heritage and the arts, all embedded within the landscape.
As Outreach and Communications Officer, you will lead the education, outreach, and communications programme in partnership with the Director and Project Coordinator. Your role will involve developing relationships with stakeholders, community groups, and educational organisations to deliver a nature, land, and water connections programme. You will help prepare funding bids, plan and deliver workshops and events, manage social media channels and the website, and create innovative content that showcases the organisation’s journey, the catchment, and its people. You will tell compelling stories that engage diverse audiences and help raise awareness of the Cromarty Firth area.
This fixed-term contract is for 2 years with the possibility of extension. You will join a small, enthusiastic team working towards a 100-year vision of socio-ecological enhancement with tangible benefits for nature and the local economy. The role requires a dynamic, creative individual passionate about education, nature, and community engagement.
Experience
- Proven experience in planning and delivering community outreach projects
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience engaging diverse groups, stakeholders, communities, and individuals
- Experience developing and maintaining positive partnerships with organisations to achieve project outcomes
- Media experience including social media engagement, content management, and creating compelling content
About you
- Clear and demonstrable passion for nature and the outdoors
- Self-motivated and able to prioritise and work independently without close supervision
- Comfortable working outdoors and delivering sessions in rural areas
- Willingness to undergo relevant Disclosure Scotland checks and necessary training
- Based in the Cromarty Firth watershed or within reasonable commuting distance
- Legal right to work in the UK
- Full UK driving licence and access to own car
Qualifications
- Degree or relevant experience in a nature/environmental field is desirable
- Creative storyteller with experience producing short films/reels, high-quality virtual and audio content, and editing with multi-media software
- Experience in education, development, and knowledge of educational systems
- Experience with fundraising activities and writing funding applications
- Knowledge and experience creating podcasts
- Experience working with schools and education programmes
- Familiarity with design and development of apps, online programmes, platforms, or interfaces
