About the Role
The Cromarty Firth Watershed Environmental Trust is a newly established charity dedicated to improving river health, restoring biodiversity, addressing climate change impacts, influencing land use practices, and promoting river catchment partnerships among landowners, organisations, groups, and communities. We are passionate about nature, land use, and people, aiming to support local livelihoods, create spaces for health and well-being, deliver education and green skills, and champion cultural heritage and the arts, all deeply connected to the landscape.
As Outreach and Communications Officer, you will lead the education, outreach, and communications programme in partnership with the Director and Project Coordinator. Your role will involve developing relationships with stakeholders, community groups, and educational organisations to deliver nature, land, and water connection programmes. You will help prepare funding bids, plan and deliver workshops and events, manage social media channels and the website, and create innovative, engaging content. You will document and showcase the organisation’s journey, the catchment, and its people, telling compelling stories that engage diverse audiences.
This fixed-term contract is for 2 years with the possibility of extension. You will join a small, enthusiastic team working towards a 100-year vision of socio-ecological enhancement with tangible benefits for nature and the local economy.
Experience
- Planning and delivering community outreach projects
- Strong verbal and written communication skills engaging diverse groups and stakeholders
- Developing and maintaining positive partnerships with organisations
- Media experience including social media engagement and content management
- Clear passion for nature and the outdoors
About you
- Self-motivated and able to prioritise and work independently without close supervision
- Comfortable delivering sessions outdoors in rural areas
- Willingness to undergo relevant Disclosure Scotland checks and necessary training
- Based in the Cromarty Firth watershed or within reasonable commuting distance
- Legal right to work in the UK
- Full UK driving licence and access to own car
Qualifications
- Degree or relevant experience in nature/environmental field (desirable)
- Creative storyteller with experience producing short films, reels, and high-quality virtual/audio content using multi-media software (desirable)
- Experience in education and knowledge of educational systems (desirable)
- Experience with fundraising and writing funding applications (desirable)
- Knowledge of podcast creation and working with schools and education programmes (desirable)
- Experience with design and development of apps, online programmes, platforms, or interfaces (desirable)
