About the Role
This is an exciting time to join Walsall Council as we progress our new Walsall Borough Local Plan that will support the delivery of new housing, employment opportunities and sustainable infrastructure while addressing important planning-related issues such as climate change, protecting and enhancing the natural and built environment, and improving the health and well-being of our communities. Walsall is a regional town with many sites designated for their ecological importance. You will join our Environment team within the wider Planning & Building Control Service to assist with the plan-making process and the delivery of our ecology service. This role is key to embedding opportunities for nature conservation, biodiversity, and sustainable green infrastructure into policies and proposals that safeguard and enhance existing habitats and ecological networks. Responsibilities include providing ecological advice on development proposals, supporting nature recovery and regeneration projects, monitoring the Walsall local site schedule, and delivering and monitoring Biodiversity Net Gain. We are particularly interested in candidates with qualifications and experience in the ecological profession to support our senior experts in this field. You will also need relevant experience in the planning profession and a good knowledge of planning and environmental legislation. Experience
Relevant experience in the planning profession with a good understanding of planning and environmental legislation. Experience or qualifications in the ecological profession are highly desirable to assist with ecological advice and biodiversity projects.

Highly motivated and able to work collaboratively within a team. You should have a strong commitment to nature conservation, biodiversity, and sustainable development. Ability to communicate effectively and provide clear advice on planning and ecological matters is essential.
Qualifications
Qualifications in ecology or a related environmental discipline are preferred. Knowledge of planning legislation and environmental regulations is required.
