About the Role
Working at HM Treasury places you at the heart of government, influencing decisions that shape the UK economy and impact lives across the country. As a Policy Adviser, you will support Ministers by developing and delivering tax and welfare policies that underpin the government’s fiscal strategy and economic growth objectives. You will work within either the Business and International Tax (BIT) Group or the Personal Tax, Welfare & Pensions (PTWP) Group, contributing to high-profile policy areas including energy and transport taxes, oil and gas taxation, carbon pricing, excise duties, international tax transparency, and personal tax reforms.
The role offers a dynamic and fast-paced environment where you will engage with a wide range of stakeholders including government departments, industry representatives, and international partners. You will be involved in policy development, delivery, project management, and briefing Ministers, with opportunities to work flexibly across different teams and priorities in response to evolving government needs.
The Treasury is a forward-looking institution committed to diversity, inclusion, and empowering its people to maximise their impact. You will be part of a friendly and supportive workplace with a strong team spirit, working across multiple locations including London, Darlington, Norwich, Birmingham, and Leeds.

About you
You will be adaptable, resilient, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication and influencing skills are essential, as is the ability to build and maintain relationships across government and external partners. A commitment to public service values and working inclusively within a diverse team is important.
