About the Role
The Premises & Maintenance Technician will ensure that the premises across three schools are safe, secure and well maintained for all pupils, staff and visitors. Reporting to the Headteacher and working closely with the School Business Administrator and senior staff, you will undertake a wide range of maintenance, repairs and site management duties. This role requires a proactive approach to premises maintenance, supporting the effective daily operation of the schools, undertaking planned maintenance, identifying and recommending improvements, and providing cover for Site Technicians when needed.
Key responsibilities include maintaining security and safety by identifying and reporting health and safety concerns, ensuring a safe working environment in line with statutory requirements and school policies. You will carry out repairs and maintenance such as basic plumbing, carpentry, joinery and decoration, maintain an accurate asset register, support upkeep of specialist areas, remove debris from drains and external areas, monitor defects logs, build and move furniture, undertake grounds maintenance, conduct post-contractor cleaning and checks, attend monthly site reviews, and assist with heating system maintenance and power tool inspections. Additionally, you will help arrange statutory compliance checks, obtain quotes for repairs and projects, act as a key holder for all three sites, and support portage duties including moving deliveries and equipment. Travel between school sites is required.
The role also involves promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons, complying with child protection, health, safety, security, confidentiality and data protection policies, supporting other professionals, attending relevant meetings, and participating in training and development activities. You will be expected to observe safe working practices in line with the Health and Safety Policy and adhere to LDBS Trust policies including Lone Working, Staff Code of Conduct, and Keeping Children Safe in Education. Compliance with COSHH regulations is also essential.
Experience
Experience in premises maintenance, repairs, and site management is highly desirable. Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, joinery, decoration, grounds maintenance, and heating systems is advantageous. Experience working in a school or multi-site environment is beneficial.

You should have good organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks across different sites. Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends is required. A positive attitude towards training and development is important.
Qualifications
No formal qualifications are specified, but relevant trade skills or certifications in maintenance, health and safety, or related areas will be an advantage. You must be willing to comply with all safeguarding and health and safety policies and undertake any required training.
