About the Role
The Royal Institute of International Affairs, known as Chatham House, is an independent policy institute based in London dedicated to building a secure, sustainable, prosperous, and just world through improved international relations. The Environment and Society Centre (ESC) provides governments, businesses, and societies with the information, networks, and tools to tackle environmental challenges and accelerate the world towards a sustainable future. The centre conducts independent, thought-leading research on major environmental challenges, assembling and incubating ideas and expertise for policy impact. It analyses and informs international processes, convenes diverse perspectives, and introduces new ideas into the international arena.
The Programme Manager will support the strategy, operations, and financial management across a diverse portfolio of ESC activities and projects, with primary responsibility for managing and delivering work on sustainable resource use. This includes overseeing research, convening, and partnership engagement for the Fair Water Footprints project, which aims to transform global water use for good. The role also manages the Signatory Support Unit, ensuring tailored communication and support for partners across government, private sector, and civil society organisations.

Experience
- Proven experience as a programme manager handling complex projects or programmes with multiple outputs and partners.
- Demonstrable interest and experience in sustainable resource use, energy transition, or climate change projects.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including funders and partners.
- Strong financial skills including budget building, management, and donor reporting.
- Experience designing and implementing effective management processes across multiple projects.
- Ability to work under pressure, think on your feet, and make effective decisions.
