About the Role
Thames21 is an environmental charity working across London and the Thames Basin to deliver high-impact, nature-based solutions to the climate and biodiversity crisis by restoring rivers and connecting communities to their local green-blue spaces. We are recruiting an enthusiastic and committed Project Manager for the Roding Rises project, alongside the role of catchment partnership co-host for the Roding, Beam and Ingrebourne catchment partnership.

The Roding Rises is an ambitious 3-year project funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, aiming to:

- Raise the value placed on the river Roding by local communities through engagement events across urban and rural areas.
- Enhance protection of the river via a citizen science action programme and a masterplan for the lower Roding to influence future development.
- Improve habitat quality through a significant capital river restoration scheme and a catchment grants programme.
- Deliver a lasting legacy by integrating project outputs with wider catchment ambitions and leveraging further restoration work.

The Project Manager will work with a multidisciplinary Thames21 team to ensure timely, budget-conscious delivery with maximum impact. As co-host of the catchment partnership, the role involves developing the catchment action plan, building partnerships, facilitating knowledge exchange, and supporting fundraising for river and catchment improvement projects.

Main duties include overseeing project delivery, managing administration and reporting, coordinating grants, line managing the Reporting and Finance Officer, hosting partnership meetings, leading funding applications, maintaining GDPR-compliant records, and representing Thames21 and the project at events.

This role requires flexibility to undertake other reasonable duties consistent with Thames21’s activities as directed.

Requirements

Experience
Proven experience in project management, ideally within environmental, community, or conservation sectors. Experience in partnership working, stakeholder engagement, and fundraising is highly desirable.

About you
Enthusiastic, committed, and able to work collaboratively across diverse teams and partners. Strong organisational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines. Passionate about environmental conservation and community engagement. Comfortable with hybrid working and occasional on-site presence across the catchment area.

Qualifications
A relevant degree or equivalent experience in environmental management, project management, or related fields is preferred but not essential. A commitment to Thames21’s values of equity, diversity, and inclusion is required.
