Project Officer - South Lincolnshire / Norfolk Border

Location
Home-based in South Lincolnshire, West Norfolk or North Cambridgeshire, with travel throughout the area.
Hours
Full Time - Flexible hours averaging up to 40 hours per week. Some weekend and out-of-office hours work required to support volunteers and maintain project standards.
Salary
£28,350 per annum (full-time equivalent), with pension, 20 days annual leave pro rata, mileage expenses paid and time off in lieu for weekend work.
About the Role
A two-year fixed term full-time position with the Waterlife Recovery Trust to maintain and develop a smart mink trapping network across the Lincolnshire/Norfolk border. The Project Officer will recruit and support volunteers who monitor humane ‘smart’ mink traps, using adaptive management techniques to maximise efficiency and animal welfare. Responsibilities include distributing and maintaining trapping equipment, humanely dispatching trapped mink using an air rifle, collecting carcasses for DNA analysis, accurately recording and uploading data, and liaising closely with volunteers and other Project Officers. The role requires regular travel using your own vehicle (with mileage reimbursement) and flexible working hours to ensure continuous project support. All necessary training and PPE will be provided. The Project Officer will also act as an ambassador for the humane control and eradication of invasive mink species, raising awareness of their impact on native wildlife.
Experience
- Experience in wildlife conservation or environmental projects is desirable.
- Practical experience with air rifles, mink control, or invasive species management is advantageous but not essential.
- Comfortable with daily IT use for data management and communication.

- Physically fit and able to work outdoors, often alone and in varying weather conditions.

- Passionate about conservation with a desire to continually improve project outcomes.
- Willing to humanely dispatch trapped mink.
- Able to work outside standard office hours including weekends.
- Appropriate home location to effectively deliver the project.

Qualifications
- Degree in an environmental subject or demonstrable good wildlife knowledge and passion for conservation.
