About the Role
The City of London is committed to protecting open spaces in and around London for public enjoyment. The North London Open Spaces Division, which includes Queens Park, Highgate Wood, West Ham Park, and Hampstead Heath inclusive of Golders Hill Park, has achieved Green Flag & Heritage status, reflecting excellence in providing high quality public open spaces. We are seeking an enthusiastic and adaptable Ranger to join a dedicated team responsible for the protection, promotion, and management of Hampstead Heath and Golders Hill Park.
The successful candidate will assist the Senior Ranger in maintaining, protecting, and conserving Golders Hill Park and Hampstead Heath Extension to high standards. Responsibilities include carrying out a range of estate management operations, assisting with events, providing high quality customer care, and conducting uniformed patrols. You will undertake inspection records, contribute to the site management plan and work programme, and supervise contractors and volunteers.
This role involves providing a visible and professional service that effectively engages with the public, supporting the aspirations of North London Open Spaces and Natural Environment to be widely recognised for high quality and inclusive services. The position includes team leading responsibilities, working alongside team members in a highly professional manner. You will support events and entertainment across the department and lead annual sports maintenance renovations, including the implementation of sports pitches and tractor-based grass cutting.
The role demands a commitment to maintaining the high standards of the open spaces and contributing to continuous professional development.
Experience
Significant relevant experience in open spaces maintenance, including frontline customer care. Proven ability to operate machinery safely such as tractors, strimmers, ride-on mowers, and a variety of other machinery and hand tools.

Enthusiastic, adaptable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Competent in a wide range of practical skills related to open spaces management and office work, including proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to supervise contractors and volunteers and lead a team professionally. Commitment to continuous professional development.
Qualifications
A full driving licence is essential. Certification in the safe operation of relevant machinery is highly desirable.
