About the Role
Operation Wallacea is a UK-based conservation organisation with over 30 years of experience running research expeditions worldwide, publishing more than 700 academic papers, describing over 80 new species, and providing high-quality environmental education and research experiences to thousands of students globally. We are seeking a Research and Education Officer to expand our research department. The successful candidate will hold a relevant PhD in zoology, ecology, conservation science, or a related discipline and will take a leading role in guiding research and education programmes at several terrestrial overseas field sites during the summer months (June-August), with a particular emphasis on the neotropics. Responsibilities include coordinating multidisciplinary research programmes at multiple overseas terrestrial sites for 2-3 months each summer, managing associated pre-season and post-season tasks, leading or assisting with the production of peer-reviewed research articles, and playing a key role in company-wide education programmes. These education programmes include designing and running online courses and supporting student coursework projects. The role requires overseas participation in research programmes and comfort with extended periods away from home, often in remote expedition settings. Applications are processed on receipt with interviews held promptly; the closing date is September 19th, 2025.
Experience
Proven publication record in relevant scientific fields. Experience coordinating multidisciplinary research programmes and producing peer-reviewed research articles. Demonstrated ability to lead and support environmental education programmes.
About you
Comfortable spending extended periods overseas in remote expedition settings. Excellent presentation skills. Good numeracy and statistical analysis skills. Spanish language skills are highly desirable due to the focus on neotropical sites. Able to work independently and as part of a team. Flexible regarding work location and travel requirements.
