About the Role
Land, and the way it is owned and managed, impacts all of us in diverse and profound ways. Whether through histories of public or private ownership, colonialism, dispossession, migration, rural economies, or urbanisation and gentrification, land lies at the heart of many social, economic and environmental challenges and injustices. Shared Assets undertakes advice and support, research, movement building, communications and resourcing work to advocate for land management models that create shared social, economic and environmental benefits. Systems change is a core value of our work, pursued through both external projects and internal practices.
As Research Coordinator, you will lead the full range of Shared Assets’ research projects—from scoping and design through delivery, follow-up and evaluation. Your focus will be on securing and delivering participative, practical, and pressing research for the land justice movement. You will collaborate with a wide range of partners including academics, community groups, NGOs and local authorities, working in collaborative and inclusive ways.
Our research spans projects of many scales, from large European Union funded consortia to smaller, targeted pieces supporting local authorities or community organisations. Often, research involves partnerships with civil society organisations to provide evidence for change in land, food and farming systems and to generate action.
Main responsibilities include managing and delivering funded research projects or those with research components, reflecting with colleagues on organisational and sector-wide learning, generating new research ideas, and supporting fundraising as part of our organisational infrastructure role. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to building a just land system that promotes thriving communities and care for the environment.
Experience
Proven experience designing and carrying out research and learning activities with diverse partners including academics, community groups, NGOs and local authorities. Experience managing funded research projects and working collaboratively within consortia or partnerships is essential.
About you
You are committed to social, economic and environmental justice, with a passion for land justice and systems change. You have excellent project management and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. You are proactive, reflective, and able to generate innovative ideas for research and fundraising. You thrive in a values-driven organisation and are motivated by making a tangible impact at local and systemic levels.
Qualifications
A relevant degree or equivalent experience in research, social sciences, environmental studies, or related fields is desirable but not essential. What matters most is your experience, commitment and ability to deliver high-quality research that supports transformative change.
