About the Role
Global Canopy is a data-driven not-for-profit organisation delivering transparency and accountability for market impacts on nature and people, with a special focus on ending deforestation. The Corporate Performance Programme supports companies and financial institutions to mitigate their impacts on nature through flagship projects such as Forest 500 (including Floresta 250), Forest IQ, and DEFT Pathway, alongside Deforestation-Free Finance Guidance.
This pivotal role as Research Lead involves oversight of all research aspects within the Corporate Performance Programme. You will manage a team of researchers, ensuring technical quality assurance of data, processes, and findings across multiple projects. You will contribute to strategy development, lead methodology updates aligned with the Accountability Framework initiative, and interpret methodologies for annual assessment cycles. Your work will distill complex data into actionable insights for publications, media, and assessed entities, enhancing the impact and reach of Global Canopy’s research.
You will collaborate across teams, including communications and human rights experts, and represent Global Canopy at external events to share methodology and findings. This role offers the opportunity to drive innovation, secure funding, and contribute to global efforts addressing deforestation and sustainability.
Experience
- Strong background in research and research methods related to forest-risk commodities
- Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop a research team
- Experience applying both quantitative and qualitative research methods, including data collection, statistical analysis, and programming or use of relevant research tools
- Demonstrable skills in data literacy and analysis
- Experience communicating complex ideas and methodologies to non-expert audiences

Qualifications
Desirable:
- Specialist technical knowledge in one or more of the following areas: deforestation, agricultural commodities, ESG, supply chains, sustainability, or financial services
- Knowledge or experience related to human rights and social dimensions of commodity-driven deforestation and environmental degradation
- Experience contributing to programmatic strategy and funding development
- Experience working across functions and delivering data to target audiences
