About the Role
Global Canopy is a data-driven not-for-profit organisation focused on delivering transparency and accountability for market impacts on nature and people, with a special emphasis on ending deforestation. The Corporate Performance Programme supports companies and financial institutions in mitigating their impacts on nature through flagship projects such as Forest 500 (including Floresta 250), Forest IQ, and DEFT Pathway, alongside Deforestation-Free Finance Guidance.
As Research Lead, you will oversee all research aspects of these projects, managing a team of researchers and ensuring technical quality and impact. You will contribute to strategy development, lead methodology updates aligned with the Accountability Framework initiative, and interpret methodologies for annual assessment cycles. Your role will involve distilling complex data into accessible insights, collaborating across teams, and representing Global Canopy externally to share methodologies and findings.
This is a pivotal role within a fast-growing, dynamic non-profit, offering the opportunity to influence global efforts on deforestation and sustainability through rigorous research leadership.
Experience
- Strong background in research and research methods related to forest-risk commodities.
- Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop a research team.
- Experience applying both quantitative and qualitative research methods, including data collection, statistical analysis, and use of relevant programming or research tools.
- Demonstrable skills in data literacy and analysis.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas and methodologies to non-expert audiences.

- Experience contributing to programmatic strategy and fundraising.
- Experience working across functions within an organisation.
