About the Role
The Ecology Centre is a thriving and inclusive community-led environmental charity based at Kinghorn Loch in Fife, dedicated to connecting people with nature and practical environmental care. As a Restoration Officer, you will work collaboratively with partners, volunteers, stakeholders, and community groups as part of the Restoration Forth project, a WWF-UK-led partnership focused on restoring coastal habitats across the Firth of Forth and strengthening connections between people and the sea.
Your role will involve delivering restoration activities and engaging communities throughout Fife, supporting educational, outreach, and conservation initiatives. You will work directly and indirectly with primary and secondary schools, local community groups, volunteers, and stakeholders to promote marine conservation through volunteering, citizen science, online learning, and public events.
Activities include guided walks and talks, seagrass spotting, bioblitzes, environmental monitoring, beach cleans, heritage investigations, art and crafts projects, and snorkel sessions. All activities will be coordinated with Restoration Forth project partners to ensure alignment and complementary community engagement, delivering positive environmental and social outcomes.
This is a fixed-term contract until 31/01/2028.
Experience
Experience working in community engagement, environmental education, or conservation is desirable. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse partners and volunteers is essential.
About you
You are passionate about marine and coastal conservation, enthusiastic about community-led environmental action, and confident in delivering educational and outreach activities. You have excellent communication and organisational skills, and are comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. Flexibility to travel across Fife, East Lothian, and Edinburgh is required.
Qualifications
A relevant qualification in environmental science, education, community development, or a related field is desirable but not essential. A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to the project’s goals are essential.
