About the Role
This charity is seeking an enthusiastic Rivers Project Officer to deliver a variety of river enhancement, monitoring, and citizen science-based community engagement initiatives across the Colne Catchment. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about healthy rivers, skilled in ecological monitoring, and eager to bring people together to care for their local environment. The role involves delivering river enhancement, monitoring water quality, riverfly populations, and physical habitats, as well as organising citizen science and hands-on conservation activities with local communities. The Colne Catchment is a unique landscape stretching from internationally rare chalk rivers to gravel pits and reservoirs within the Colne Valley Regional Park, supporting remarkable wildlife, diverse recreational opportunities, and playing a vital role in public water supply. The charity's office is located in the middle of a country park right next to a chalk stream, providing a special place to work.
The Organisation
The charity works with communities across the south of England to transform lives and places. With over 25 years of experience in social and environmental regeneration, their mission is to create better places, improve people’s prospects, and promote greener living and working. They envision vibrant, green neighbourhoods where communities are strong and able to shape their own futures, ensuring no one is held back by their background or circumstances. Each year, they deliver over 100 innovative projects tackling major community issues and creating lasting positive change.
Experience
Experience in ecological monitoring and community engagement is highly desirable. A passion for river health and environmental conservation is essential.
About you
You are enthusiastic, motivated, and skilled at bringing people together to care for their local environment. You have strong organisational skills and enjoy working both independently and as part of a team. Relevant qualifications in ecology, environmental science, or related fields are advantageous but not mandatory. A willingness to learn and develop skills in river enhancement and citizen science is essential.
