About the Role
Are you passionate about making a difference and keen to start a career in health and safety? We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Health & Safety and Property Team as an Apprentice Safety, Health and Environment Technician. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience and a nationally recognised qualification while supporting the effective management of health and safety risks across Epping Forest.
Key responsibilities include assisting in compiling and analysing data on accidents, incidents, and near misses; supporting incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions; maintaining and updating health and safety records including risk and COSHH assessments; contributing to the development and review of health and safety policies and procedures; participating in departmental meetings and the Health & Safety Improvement Group; supporting contractor safety checks and monitoring compliance; coordinating training requirements and maintaining training records; promoting health, safety, and wellbeing information across the organisation; drafting content for newsletters and internal communications; supporting the administration of health and safety systems and periodic equipment inspections; and assisting with the management of equipment assessments and training matrices.
On successful completion, you will gain a solid understanding of health and safety legislation including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, experience in incident investigation, risk assessment and contractor management, skills in IT systems for document management and data analysis, and exposure to health and safety practices in forestry, conservation, agriculture, and property management. You will also have the opportunity to shadow experienced professionals and participate in site inspections and audits, and be eligible for Technical Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Tech IOSH).
Experience
No prior experience is required. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are essential. Prior learning or experience in a similar role may exclude applicants due to funding rules.

You should be eager to learn and develop a career in health and safety, be a good communicator able to explain information clearly, organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks effectively. Commitment to achieving the Level 3 Safety, Health and Environment Technician qualification is essential.
Qualifications
To qualify for this apprenticeship, you must be 16 or over by the end of the summer holidays, living in England, and not in full-time education at the time of applying. Non-UK citizens must have permission from the UK government to live in the UK (not for educational purposes) and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least the previous three years before the apprenticeship start date. Selected apprenticeships require evidence of English and Maths GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent; if requested, certificates must be provided before applications are considered.
