Hours
37 hours per week (standard). This role requires working regular unsocial hours including evenings, nights, weekends and Bank/Public holidays. A 17% payment will be made in addition to basic pay to recognise unsocial hours.

About the Role
This is a delivery role within an establishment requiring an appropriate trade qualification or experience. The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the grounds and amenity areas within the estate at HMP Downview. This is a non-operational role with no line management or supervisory responsibilities. Key duties include soft landscaping such as turf laying, hard landscaping including laying patio stones, and maintaining lawns, ponds, water features, sports fields, woodland and external grounds in accordance with accepted horticultural practices. The role involves pest control preventative measures, small project work including erection of horticultural support structures, soil husbandry, and ensuring optimum plant and crop development. The post holder will provide safe access and exits to the estate and supervise prisoner work parties, ensuring quality control as per the Service Delivery Agreement. Additional responsibilities include undertaking planned maintenance and small repairs, survey inspections in confined spaces and at height, advising on stock levels and procurement, escorting and supervising technical contractors in line with Local Security Strategy, operating as banksman directing plant and machinery operations, maintaining tools and machinery, complying with Health and Safety policies and legislation, driving estate vehicles, carrying out locking duties, and contributing to prisoner reports including parole and sentence planning. The role requires adherence to safeguarding policies and undertaking appropriate training to promote the welfare of children. The duties may be subject to reasonable alterations and additional tasks as required. Fluency in English (or Welsh where applicable) is essential for all spoken aspects of the role.

Experience
- Competent in relevant grounds maintenance and horticultural skills.
- Experience in soft and hard landscaping, pest control, and grounds upkeep is essential.
- Ability to supervise prisoner work parties and ensure quality control.
- Experience in operating plant equipment and driving estate vehicles is required.
