About the Role
Join Devon County Council’s ambitious Climate and Sustainability Team and play a key role in driving down carbon emissions and building a sustainable future for Devon. You will lead the delivery of the new Low Carbon Supply Chain Strategy, part of the Corporate Carbon Reduction Plan, focusing on improving data capture systems, upskilling staff, and engaging suppliers to minimise carbon emissions from the goods, works, and services procured by the council. Working closely with the Procurement Team and service leads, you will shape specifications, influence contract management, and engage directly with suppliers to improve environmental outcomes. This highly collaborative role involves working across the council and with external partners as part of the Environmental Sustainability Group, which covers climate, ecology, heritage, landscape, flood and coastal risk. You will also have the opportunity to develop and lead wider climate and sustainability projects and contribute to the Devon Climate Emergency and other environmental partnerships. The team’s work includes climate resilience, energy planning, renewable energy deployment, building retrofit, carbon offsetting, low carbon travel solutions, local food initiatives, and community and schools engagement. Experience
Substantial experience in a similar role, including influencing procurement processes to improve environmental outcomes. Detailed understanding of systems and initiatives to improve climate resilience and environmental sustainability. Proven ability to manipulate, interpret, and be led by data.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical information for diverse audiences and build strong working relationships. Proactive and collaborative approach with the ability to lead projects and influence change. Comfortable working across disciplines, managing complexity, and shaping innovative solutions to environmental challenges.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in climate, sustainability, environmental management, or related fields are desirable. Ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English is required. UK Right to Work is essential.
