About the Role

Join our Sustainable Water Management business, a national team of 300 water science and engineering professionals, and contribute to a wide range of flood risk management projects for Local Authority clients. We are seeking a Senior Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant experienced in delivering flood risk assessments, flood management projects, and sustainable drainage solutions on technically complex projects.
A key focus will be collaborating with Local Authority flood management teams on flood investigations, flood strategies, flood alleviation solutions, natural flood management, sustainable drainage master-planning, and supporting the planning process to achieve sustainable water environment solutions. You will also deliver flood risk assessments and sustainable drainage strategies for developments in energy, highway, and rail sectors to secure planning consent.
You will have technical, management, and commercial responsibilities including sharing expertise and mentoring others. The role involves contributing to or leading technical deliverables, managing small project teams, balancing programme, budget and quality, securing new projects, coordinating multidisciplinary and client-facing meetings, and championing positive health and safety behaviours.
Experience
- Delivering local authority flood risk services including Sustainable Drainage Systems, Flood Risk Management Plans, Strategic Flood Risk Assessments, flood investigations, and planning review support
- Delivering Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies to support planning applications
- Leading project delivery and managing budgets related to flood risk management, flood risk assessment or sustainable drainage
- Understanding of the Flood Risk Management Act, National Planning Framework 4, SEPA guidance and local authority policies
- Supporting and mentoring junior colleagues
- Technical report writing and checking
- Presenting and leading meetings with team members and clients
About you
Confident, collaborative, and client-focused with strong technical knowledge and leadership skills. You are motivated to contribute to sustainable water management solutions and mentor others while managing complex projects effectively.
Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant environmental, geographical, science or engineering discipline
- Chartered status with C.WEM, CEnv, CSci or CEng, or evidence of working towards this
- Desirable: wider knowledge of the regulatory context for planning in the UK
