About the Role
Join Natural England's Data Science Services (DSS) team, a key provider of expert analytical and data management services that underpin the organisation’s mission to support thriving nature for people and planet. This senior role leads the development and delivery of robust analytical and data programmes, focusing on geospatial analysis and modelling to improve evidence quality and support strategic objectives.
The initial focus will be on delivering the Planning and Infrastructure Bill (PIB) and the forthcoming Nature Restoration Fund (NRF). You will develop national-scale geospatial analytical processes and support digital systems underpinning the NRF, contributing to a multi-year, policy-driven project that integrates impact assessments, conservation measure databases, and online tools for developers.
As a senior member of the team, you will manage complex data and spatial analysis projects, establish data standards and quality assurance processes, engage with stakeholders, and build capability within the team and across Natural England. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to communicate complex analytical outputs clearly to diverse audiences.
Experience
- Extensive experience in geospatial analysis using programming languages such as Python and R
- Proficient with GIS software including ArcGIS and QGIS
- Skilled in statistical techniques for data relationship identification and inference
- Experience integrating diverse data types and sources through automated workflows
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Experience defining and implementing quality assurance activities and analytical standards
- Proven ability to work with internal and external stakeholders in multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presenting results and expert opinions
- Previous leadership experience such as mentoring and technical training is desirable
