About the Role
The British Academy, the UK’s national body for the humanities and social sciences, is seeking a Senior Policy Adviser to join our Public Policy Team on an 18-month fixed-term contract. This role is crucial for the development and delivery of evidence-driven policy programmes focused on environmental policy and sustainability, leveraging SHAPE research (Social sciences, Humanities and the Arts for People and the Economy/Environment) to influence policy outcomes aligned with the Academy’s and Policy Directorate’s strategy.
The Senior Policy Adviser will lead the delivery of Sustainable Futures policy programmes, with the opportunity to define their scope and strategy. The role requires a strong understanding of climate, nature, and environmental policy from academic, policy, or practical perspectives. You will bring together insights and analysis across policy themes to approach challenges with fresh perspectives.
This varied role involves planning and delivering diverse activities including convening stakeholders, managing researchers, and collaborating with academic and government counterparts. You will proactively seek opportunities, communicate effectively, and build relationships to extend the reach and impact of your programme. While often working independently, you will be part of a collaborative, supportive team of 12, working together towards shared goals.

Experience
Proven understanding and knowledge of climate, nature, and environmental policy from academia, policy, or practice. Experience in managing policy programmes, convening stakeholders, and collaborating with researchers and policymakers is essential.

Strong communication skills and relationship-building abilities are required. Comfortable working independently within a collaborative team environment and able to manage multiple activities effectively.
Qualifications
