We are looking to appoint a Senior / Principal Transport Consultant into WSP's Liveable Places team. The team works with a wide range of local authority and private clients across the UK to help them achieve their placemaking ambitions. As a Senior / Principal Transport Consultant, you will take the lead on delivering a wide range of schemes from concept to delivery, including public realm, active travel, traffic engineering, road safety, parking, traffic signals, and pedestrian/traffic modelling.
In this role, you will act as Designer and Project Manager on projects delivering liveable places and better sustainable transport routes in urban and rural settings. You will work directly with clients to meet their sustainable transport needs while helping to grow and develop our work with them. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing reports, drawings (using CAD), schedules and other documents in accordance with design standards, legislation and guidance such as LTN 1/20, LTN 1/24, Traffic Signs Manual, MfS, MfS 2, DMRB and CDM 2015. You will stay informed about industry trends and best practices, oversee project budgets and financial performance, undertake technical review and checking of design deliverables, and collaborate with the Liveable Places team, the wider Mobility team, and the broader WSP business to achieve shared objectives.
The Liveable Places team is made up of over 200 staff across the country, with further growth planned. The Southampton team consists of 13 friendly and collaborative members working closely with clients including National Highways, West Sussex County Council, East Sussex County Council, Gloucestershire County Council, Wokingham Borough Council, BCP Council and Somerset Council. Together, they deliver a variety of schemes such as active travel initiatives, bus priority measures, traffic signal improvements, road safety projects, parking solutions, and public realm enhancements. The team’s approach is rooted in partnership and a shared commitment to making communities more accessible, sustainable, and vibrant.

Experience
- Proven ability to lead and manage project teams and individuals
- Proven track record in project management and financial control
- Experience in transport, road safety, parking and traffic engineering
- Knowledge of current transport policy and standards
- Ability to support work winning and contribute to the growth of the Liveable Places team

Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, transport engineering or transport planning
