You’ll be working alongside a host of talented people ranging from early career professionals to established engineers and project managers across the Roads business to improve local and strategic networks. Working in partnership with National Highways and Local Authority clients across the region, you could find yourself immersed in a diverse range of projects including active travel, digital design (including 3D modelling), strategic network improvements, major and minor maintenance, alignment, road safety as well as public realm.
The role offers an interesting and varied workload – from major strategic highways projects such as Smart Motorways through to a diverse range of small and medium local authority highways infrastructure improvement schemes.
You will:
- Prepare designs and specifications in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).
- Develop designs using AutoCAD and Civil3D.
- Deliver work packages with scope to progress to managing schemes and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Provide support to Project Managers within the design team in planning, programming, technical input to pricing of project briefs, proposals, deliverables and cost estimation.
- Be accountable for checking, certifying and authorising designs, documents, approvals, and reports.
- Manage graduate engineers and technicians to deliver work packages and coordinate engineering resources.
- Work collaboratively with clients and key stakeholders to deliver schemes and projects.
- Mentor and upskill more junior staff, helping them develop professionally and progress towards professional qualifications.
Experience
- Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent within a highway design role.
- Highways design experience in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).
- Experience complying with Designers Duties under CDM.
- Experience delivering geometric designs using AutoDesk Civil 3D is advantageous.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, standards and procedures including application of departures from standard.
- NEC and/or Project Management experience is advantageous.
