About the Role
Join the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and play a vital role in caring for the Defence Estate. The Senior Structural Engineer is a key member of the Structures Team, providing specialist expertise to ensure structural safety across the Ministry of Defence (MOD) estate worldwide. This role supports the MOD’s intelligent client function by delivering professional technical advice on procurement, design, installation, maintenance, inspection, and refurbishment of a diverse portfolio of infrastructure assets including historic pre-World War constructions, modern Defence buildings, and modular systems.
The post holder will collaborate closely with the Building Safety Team to assess higher-risk structures under the Building Safety Act and contribute to policy development, safety assurance, and technical oversight to ensure compliance with statutory duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. Responsibilities include investigating structural defects or failures and issuing Safety Alerts to inform the wider organisation.
Additionally, the role provides specialist support for the management of temporary works, ensuring designs and implementations meet relevant standards and MOD requirements.

Experience
- Proven experience in the design and construction of steel and/or reinforced concrete buildings
- Understanding of masonry, timber, and modular construction methods
- Knowledge of sustainable construction practices
- Desirable: Knowledge of BS5975 and experience with temporary works
- Desirable: Experience with accident and incident investigations

Qualifications
- Civil or Structural Engineering Degree (BEng/MEng)
- Full UK Driving Licence required for site visits
