About the Role
West London NHS Trust is recruiting for the key role of Senior Sustainability Manager to help deliver its sustainability agenda and meet NHS net zero targets. The Trust aspires to become one of the most sustainable organisations within the NHS. This role primarily focuses on West London NHS Trust (WLNT) but also involves close collaboration with the Senior Sustainability Manager at Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust (CLCH) as part of a strategic partnership, delivering cross-cutting projects across both organisations. The post holder will have line management responsibility for a junior team member and will be part of a supportive, friendly team with a diverse and inclusive culture. A flexible approach is essential as travel between sites will be required.
The Senior Sustainability Manager will lead and provide expert knowledge on all aspects of environmental sustainability, ensuring sustainable development is integrated into the Trust’s core business. Particular focus will be given to the nine priority areas identified by the Greener NHS unit:
- Workforce and system leadership
- Sustainable models of care
- Digital transformation
- Travel and transport
- Estates and Facilities
- Medicines
- Supply chain and procurement
- Food and Nutrition
- Adaptation
The role requires close working relationships with staff at all levels and disciplines, including Executive Directors and external leads and experts. Development and monitoring of a multi-year sustainability programme will be key, with progress reported internally and externally through meetings, data returns, and information requests. Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential to succeed in this role.
Experience
Proven experience in sustainability management, preferably within healthcare or a large complex organisation. Experience leading projects and managing teams is essential.

Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines and organisational levels.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in sustainability, environmental management, or related fields are desirable but not explicitly stated. Demonstrable knowledge of NHS sustainability priorities and net zero targets is advantageous.
